Robyn Collins

RobynAfter a sun kissed childhood growing up in Australia, and a short stint working as a horticulturist, I did what lots of young Australians do and went off backpacking to see the world. My travels took me through Europe and Asia until I eventually decided to settle in the Netherlands. The first step I took was to immerse myself in Dutch language courses so that I could communicate with the Dutch as quickly as possible.

Being able to speak both English and Dutch opened doors for me and I was soon offered a position in the communications department of an International Media and Technology company. This is where I gained invaluable new skills whilst learning about corporate culture from the inside. In this position I was able to make use of my talent and passion for words and language. Once my children were born I became more interested in language acquisition as they are Dutch-English bilingual. A Bachelor Degree in Psychology, focussing on childhood development and language learning, gave me the theoretical foundation I required.

As my passion for language learning grew, I decided it was time for a new challenge and I become an English Language Teacher. In 2007, I completed a Cambridge CELTA course in Amsterdam and have been enjoying myself ever since. I am able to use the various skills and knowledge I have acquired up until now to work with both adults needing to improve their English in the business world, and children starting to learn a second language.
