In 1994 I started studying English at the university of Leiden. I had the chance to follow a semester in Galway, Ireland. This is when I first noticed my disposition for language teaching because I helped many of my non-English speaking friends with their English. I enjoyed it very much, also because it brought me into contact with various cultures. I graduated in 1998, after which I spent some time in Sales at JCDecaux. I decided to return to my primary passion – language teaching – and tried secondary education first. However, I found myself more in the role of police officer than that of teacher and decided to find something else. In between jobs, I took a job as a taxi driver which brought me to the doors of Buitengoed HagenHorst, where I read on a sign that it housed a language institute. I called the next day and this is how I started my career as language trainer for adults. Now, after almost seven years, I am pleased to be able to take it a step further and, together with my dear colleague Anneke, to be able to start our own institute: DnA Languages (have you guessed what DnA stands for?). I will always be a trainer, that's my passion. Working with the diverse and individual students is a source of energy and fun for me. It gives me the opportunity to do something for another person while at the same time having an outlet for my passion and creativity. I will always love this job! |
